If you're used to Shinjuku Ni-chome, the first thing you'll notice about Jongno is how quietly it blends into the surrounding city. Signage is understated, and some entrances sit down unmarked alleys.
The neighborhood
Around Jongno 3-ga Station you'll find everything from long-running Korean-style bars to clubs popular with a younger crowd. Japanese-speaking venues are still relatively rare, but places like Shutter Seoul are changing that.
Is it okay to go alone?
Just like in Ni-chome, solo visitors are common in Jongno. Choosing a bar with counter seating makes it easy to relax and strike up conversation.
